Sena Sugar Estate Mozambique Fowler Engines

Here is an interesting collection of pictures of Fowler Ploughing Tackle on the Sena Sugar Estate in Mozambique. The pictures were taken by Geoff Cooke in 1976:

Sena Sugar was a British owned company based in Luabo, Central Mozambique who produced cane sugar and used a wide variety of agricultural and rail steam, much of which survived the cutters torch.

Only a couple of years later the engines were repatriated back to UK by a number of English enthusiasts, their return to the UK has been made into a DVD – Mozambique Adventure which can be purchased from the Steam Plough Club.

Overall 6 Fowler Z7 Ploughing Engines have returned:

Fowler 14367
Fowler 14368
Fowler 15509
Fowler 15510
Fowler 15669
Fowler 15670
Fowler 15672
Fowler 15673

All of the engines with the exception of 14368 have been restored. 15670 and 15673 are now regular fixtures on the rally scene performing plough demonstrations regularly and winning the SPC Challenge:

Geoff also pictured at Sena their Fowler Tiger Tractor and Marshall Portable:

I understand that the Fowler Tiger has been shipped to Australia and survivies in an unrestored condition. I’m unsure of the details or whereabouts of the Marshall

You can see more pictures taken at the same time and loads of great Railway pictures from all over the world at:
