Boconnoc Steam Fair 2009

The annual Boconnoc rally took place over the weekend of 24/25/26 July 2009 at the Boconnoc estate near Lostwithiel in Cornwall. Unfortunately as with a number of July events this year heavy rain in the preceding days meant that the site was extremely wet on Friday and Saturday and movement on grass areas all but impossible for engines. This is an example of conditions on Friday morning:

A number engines visited the rally from beyond Cornwall including Burrell 4019 which was roaded all the way from it’s Sussex base, plus Burrell Crane engines 3197 “Old Tim” & 3829 “His Majesty”:

A new heavy load had been put together by Steve Sanders, owner of Mclaren Road Locomotive 3411 “King Harry” which include a concrete block originally intended for Padstow lifeboat station. I am told that the load weighed in the region of 20 tons. On Saturday the load was moved briefly around the hard standing part of the site:

As usual the rally included free trailor rides around the site and a selection of showman’s engines in the fair. This included 2 former Whitelegg engines, Burrell 3159 “Gladiator” and Burrell 3711 “King of the Belgians”:
